1. Read this explanation of gesture. It is a good definition.

2. Look at these EXAMPLES! Gestures come in all mediums and forms, but what they are is “quick sketches” to loosen the artist up to find the MAIN LINES of the figure. They are NOT “pretty, controlled” drawings. They do NOT contain depth or shade or detail.
