Show Me Your Bones
2014
There is an infinite amount of
inspiration that exists to form a clothing line. Whether it is the clouds in the sky to
inspire a new color palette, or the shape of a fruit to inspire a new
silhouette, fashion evolves from all places.
Instead of pulling inspiration from tangible objects, as I normally
would do when designing a collection, I pulled ideas from what I learned in
this Art Studio class. Essentially, I
combined my world of fashion design, what I am confortable with, and explored
how to integrate simple techniques that have recently been added to my drawing
vocabulary. The process of this artwork not only merged two forms of art for
me, but it allowed me to explore a side of fashion design I normally can never
do. In the real world, I design for the
masses and unfortunately what pays the bills.
So besides being an exploration of techniques, this project was an
outlet for ideas that I’m normally restricted on doing.
Some of the vocabulary that I learned
this semester was drawing the human anatomy, emphasis on watercolor, as well as
a study on striped fabric. These ideas
inspired my collection “Show Me Your Bones.” The visual aspect of this piece is
what we in the design world would call a mood board. A mock up of a few sketches and swatches are
presented to give the team an overall feel of the line.
The concept of this piece is a
transition into the world of Studio Art from that of the fashion industry. I
hope to convey that the inspiration for fashion is limitless.
