Painting
For this conceptual set of images I wanted to show how I
paint using my body as the story teller. Frequently when I paint I find strange
impressions on my legs from keeping my wrist with bracelets squished between my
legs, or I find myself sitting on my keys without noticing. I find strange
impressions on my feet and calves from the shoes that I was wearing and took
off. I also get impressions on my forearm from whatever bracelets I was wearing
that day. And I always find paint somewhere on my body, usually on my thighs,
where I often wipe my hands or brushes off. For the parameters I only
photographed imprints and paint smears that happened naturally, no intentional
marks on my body. Also, I only photographed myself when I was painting cats and
noticed a strange impression or a paint smear. And I only photographed myself
in my own home.
I’m not entirely sure if this is actually a conceptual set
of images, but I set parameters and had an idea in mind. If I were to continue
doing this I think I would have a lot more interesting photographs to add to
the project, as I remember having a small flower impression on my cheek from
resting my head on the hand I have a flower ring on. I think it would be fun to
record how my body changes as I do something I really love. Daily I usually
have some kind of oil paint still on me from the previous night, and I think it
would be interesting to see all of them together in an album. I think the
images are successful, and I really enjoy that many of them are very abstract
and some even look a bit like landscapes. I don’t know how successful this
project is as conceptual art. Concept art isn’t really my thing. I don’t really
get concepts. When I do art I usually just do it to do it, or to make something
for someone, or make something I’ve been imagining into something tangible.
