Stripes Narrative - Sullivan

The narrative I created around my deconstructed still life began with character. Each figure that I drew seemed to have a distinct personality. I began the composition with the bottom left figure, whose cheerful stripes, fuzzy scarf, and lack of hood suggested a happy-go-lucky, innocent personality. From there I added the somber, ethereal figure in white (although this figure had polka dots in reality, I deliberately omitted them) and last, the massive, imposing figure on the left. All three are looking inward, confronting each other. This is a representation of a struggle between good and evil forces; the two figures on the left are in opposition to the supernaturally large and powerful figure on the right. There is a sense of humor to this struggle, though—the scarf-wearing figure is an irreverent, goofy hero, while the looming figure on the right may be evil, but also is wearing tropical print robes.
